Cancún & Playa del Carmen
Two sides of the Riviera Maya: Cancún's long sweep of sand and lagoon light, then Playa del Carmen's modern stone, mangrove courtyards, and Caribbean horizon.
Caribbean Sea · Cancún
Along the coast
The journey begins where lagoon and Caribbean sit on opposite sides of the narrow Hotel Zone. Mornings opened onto white sand and layered blue water; evenings turned toward fire-colored skies.
Farther south, Playa del Carmen changed the rhythm. Pale stone buildings opened around mangroves, water ran to the edge of private rooms, and small Maya ruins appeared within the tropical green.
Cancún · Caribbean and lagoon
Water on both sides
From the still lagoon to the open Caribbean, the changing water and light shaped every view.

Cancún · Days and evenings
The Westin, the sign, and sunset
The days moved easily between the hotel, the beach, and familiar Cancún landmarks before the sky took over at sunset.

Cancún · Maya history
Scorpion's Temple by the sea
Among the hotels, stone foundations and the remains of Scorpion's Temple preserve a much older layer of the coast, dating to the Late Postclassic period.

Cancún · At the table
Seafood, lime, and salsa
Ceviche, fish tacos, chowder, grilled fish, and a full row of salsas kept the Caribbean close even away from the water.

Playa del Carmen · The stay
Stone, water, and mangroves
Modern geometry met dense tropical growth: long passages, swim-up rooms, open-air terraces, and architecture designed to keep the sea in view.

Playa del Carmen · Along the road
Shoreline and ruins
Beyond the hotel, the road followed a sargassum-lined coast and passed quiet Maya remains slowly being reclaimed by palms and forest.
